From a young age, Iโ€™ve always found myself tuned into beauty in its many forms.

The colors of the sky at dusk, a beautifully designed building, a tree-lined street in autumn, or even something as simple as sunlight beaming through a windowโ€”all these scenes have a way of stopping me in my tracks. Over the years, Iโ€™ve made it a personal mission to notice and appreciate as many of these ordinary moments as I can.

For me, this practice is about crafting a rich inner life and showing gratitude to God for giving us such an incredible gift. Here are 10 simple, everyday ways anyone can experience the aesthetic beauty that surrounds us all.

Nature Right Outside Your Door

You donโ€™t have to hike a mountain to appreciate the beauty of nature. Step outside and take a look around. Notice how the grass glistens with dew in the morning or how birds gather on a wire, like notes on a musical staff. Even something as small as the weeds growing through cracks in the sidewalk shows natureโ€™s resilience. Take a seat at a park bench, breathe deeply, and notice the breeze moving through the trees. Itโ€™s free, and itโ€™s everywhere.

Everyday Sounds That Speak to the Soul

Life has a soundtrack, and itโ€™s worth tuning into. Maybe itโ€™s the rhythmic clatter of a train that reminds you of childhood trips or the familiar sound of your coffee maker perking away in the morning. The crunch of gravel under your shoes or the steady hum of city lifeโ€”all these sounds add richness to your day. Even something as simple as the sizzle of food cooking on the stove can make you pause and smile.

The Little Joys of Good Design

Great design isnโ€™t just in fancy cars or expensive furnitureโ€”itโ€™s in the tools you use every day. The way a door handle feels solid in your grip, the satisfying click of a pen, or the perfect shape of a coffee mug in your handsโ€”these are all examples of design working its magic. Look around your home or workspace. That perfectly functional object that just โ€œworksโ€? Thatโ€™s beauty in action.

Light and Shadows Playing Their Part

Ever noticed how sunlight streams through your kitchen window, hitting your morning toast just right? Or how headlights cut through the fog during an evening drive? These moments happen all the time if youโ€™re paying attention. Flip through an old photo album, and youโ€™ll see how light tells a storyโ€”whether itโ€™s the golden hour glow in a vacation photo or the way candlelight makes a birthday cake feel special.

Color That Changes Your Mood

Color is everywhere, and it does more than just fill spaceโ€”it affects how we feel. That pop of bright yellow on a raincoat during a gray, drizzly day or the calming blue of a well-worn T-shirt can lift your mood in an instant. Even the contrast of fresh produce at a farmerโ€™s marketโ€”red tomatoes, green cucumbers, orange carrotsโ€”can feel like a feast for the eyes before you take a single bite.

Movement That Catches the Eye

Beauty isnโ€™t just something you look atโ€”itโ€™s in the way things move. Watch the way a basketball arcs through the air in a perfect shot, or how the flames in a fireplace flicker and dance. Kids running through sprinklers in summer or the graceful glide of a bike down a hillโ€”these are moments that remind you life is in motion, and itโ€™s worth noticing.

The Feel of Things Around You

Texture is something we donโ€™t often think about, but itโ€™s always there. The soft warmth of a favorite blanket on a chilly night, the rough bark of a tree you lean against in the park, or the smoothness of a pebble you pick up on the beach. Even small things, like the crisp feel of fresh bedsheets, can bring a little spark of joy to your day.

Faces That Tell Stories

Look at the people around youโ€”their faces hold so much beauty. Itโ€™s in the laugh lines on your grandparentโ€™s face or the way your childโ€™s cheeks flush after playing outside. Even strangers carry stories you can imagine: the determined look of someone rushing to catch a train or the quiet contentment of someone sipping coffee at a cafรฉ. These moments of connection, even from afar, are beautiful.

The Quiet of Being Still

Silence isnโ€™t just empty spaceโ€”itโ€™s a pause that lets you breathe. Maybe itโ€™s the stillness of your house after everyoneโ€™s gone to bed or the quiet of sitting on a bench, watching the world go by. Itโ€™s in these moments that you can hear yourself think, notice the world, and appreciate the calm. Silence can be beautiful because it gives everything else room to shine.

Objects With Meaning

Take a moment to think about the things in your life that have a story. It might be the mug your best friend gave you, the baseball glove from your childhood, or the photo of your family vacation. These objects arenโ€™t just โ€œstuff.โ€ They hold memories and feelings that make them special. Next time youโ€™re feeling disconnected, look around and remember the beauty in these everyday relics.

The truth is, beauty doesnโ€™t have to be fancy or far away. Itโ€™s in the cracks of your dayโ€”the things you walk past without a second thought. Slow down, look closer, and youโ€™ll see itโ€™s all right there, waiting to be noticed.
